Greek kritharaki pasta bake

Greek kritharaki pasta topped with minced meat and feta cheese is delicious. We were really enthusiastic about it.

To make the Greek kritharaki pasta bake, first fry the minced meat. Of course, it is a little more time-consuming, but unfortunately essential for this recipe.

I often fry three times the amount of minced meat at home. And vacuum it in three equal quantities for our journey. Then I no longer have this “extra effort” on the road. Apart from that, minced meat is cooked very quickly.

Kritharaki noodles are small Greek noodles that look similar to grains of rice. Just a little bigger.

As an alternative to Kritharaki pasta, you can also use the Risoni pasta available in Germany (e.g. from Barilla).

500 g minced meat
1 onion
1 clove of garlic
2 peppers, red
150 ml stock
2 tbsp tomato puree
150ml Crème-Fraîche/Light cream
250 g Kritharaki noodles
500 ml tomato purée
3 tsp thyme*
1 tsp paprika powder
200 g feta cheese (sheep’s cheese)
Oil for frying

To make the Greek kritharaki pasta bake, first peel the onion and garlic. Finely dice the onion. Finely chop the garlic.

Fry the minced meat with a little oil, diced onions and chopped garlic. Season with salt, pepper, paprika powder and 2 teaspoons of thyme.

In the meantime, mix the Kritharaki pasta with the tomato purée, 100 ml stock, tomato purée, crème fraîche and the rest of the thyme in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.

Wash, deseed and dice the bell pepper. Mix the minced meat into the Kritharaki noodle mixture.

Spread everything in the Omnia dish and cook for 5 minutes over a high heat. Then cook over a medium heat for 20 minutes. Turn off the gas (risk of burning!) and check the liquid level of the Kritharaki noodles. To do this, use a plastic or silicone spoon to stir the ingredients briefly and carefully once in the Omnia oven. If there is no liquid, add the remaining 50 ml stock and stir in.

Crumble the feta cheese over the Greek kritharaki pasta bake and bake for a further 10-15 minutes over a medium heat.
