Bacon mince roll – a different kind of mince!

I hated minced meat as a child! Always “Falscher Hase” on Sundays. The name alone is bad music to children’s ears. No child wants to eat a rabbit, right? Then they became more “modern” and the fake rabbit was filled with boiled eggs or diced peppers.

And today….na I find minced meat so wonderfully versatile. I love experimenting with it. I no longer use a bread roll to cook the mince in the Omnia oven. I think it gets too loose because you have to get the mince out of the Omnia again. It’s better if the mince is a bit firmer. This also makes it suitable for low carb 😉 .

I’m still in my infancy in this area. But my girlfriend is always very supportive.

I mean, my family really has to put up with a lot. The things they have to try 😄 . Fortunately, my husband is very keen to experiment! And because he liked the cauliflower bomb so much, I wrapped the minced meat in bacon and also filled it with feta cheese. The result was the bacon mince roll. I’m still quite surprised that the bacon isn’t dripping with fat.

I can only recommend the preparation without a silicone mold. This allowed a lot of liquid, i.e. fat, from the bacon mince roll to “burn off”. The silicone mold prevents this effect.

Alternatively, I recommend the non-stick coated baking tin from OMNIA. The bacon mince roll can also be prepared perfectly in the Rocktrail camping oven or the camping ovens from Petromax or Enders. These baking tins are already equipped with a ceramic coating.

Ingredients:

750g minced meat
1 Egg
1 tsp mustard
1 small onion
200g feta cheese
100g bacon
Salt
Pepper
Thyme

Preparation:

Finely dice the onion and roast with 1 teaspoon of oil (roasting is not absolutely necessary, but gives a great roasted aroma). Mix the minced meat with the egg and mustard. Season to taste with pepper, salt and thyme. Add the roasted onion.

Spread the minced dough out evenly in a square tin (40x37cm) on baking paper. Crumble the feta cheese on top.

Using the baking paper, shape the minced dough into a roll.

Leave the mince roll on the baking paper lengthways. Place the bacon strips vertically underneath.

Roll back the mince roll so that it is wrapped in the bacon.

Lightly grease the Omnia mold. If you want to make things easier, use the non-stick coated baking tin* from OMNIA. The recipe is also suitable for the Rocktrail camping oven or the camping ovens from Petromax or Enders.

Place the bacon mince roll inside and bake for 45 mins. Bake at half heat.

This recipe is suitable for LOW CARB!

The sheep’s cheese/feta cheese filling and the juicy bacon coating give this mince and bacon roll a very aromatic flavor. A very simple recipe that tastes absolutely delicious. As a side dish, the mashed potatoes from the day before were made into delicious potato and cheese patties.
